    1963 N11 Exhaust

Were any 63's shipped from the factory with N11 exhaust systems? Black book says they were an option but no number on how many shipped. Thanks in advance

    Jerry,

Noland Adams Corvette Restoration book volume 2 1963 to 1967 says this on page 155:

    N11 Off-Road Exhaust System
An off-road exhaust system was added to production records on March 19th 1963. However, production figures do not mention N11, so it is likely that no units were factory installed
    thx,
    Mark

      Looking at some dealer ordering info for the 1963 Corvette (Sept 4, 1962; Feb 1, 1963; March 1, 1963; June 14, 1963)...
Unfortunately, I don't see any mention of the N11 off-road exhaust option listed.

This is an older thread, but look at the attached document ( N11 ).

I was initially impressed... after more review & comparison, I'm very skeptical that document is original.
Then again, I could be totally wrong...

Just because N-11 is included in the image of what appears to be a legitimate dealer copy of the production order doesn't mean it was installed, especially if there were no available parts. Like my SWC, a mid-march build likely has the "deep" under-seat wells that required a jog in the pipe and the polarity (male-female) of the center joint was unique to '63.

In early February I included P-48 with my SWC order from Alan Green Chevrolet in Seattle (actually Burien IIRC just outside the Seattle city limits at the time). A week later, Don Campbell, my salesman (who was Jerry Grant's co-driver at Sebring the following month in Green's Z06) called and said P-48 was not released for production. I asked him if there was an estimated release date and he said no, so I said drop P-48. I have the dealer copy of the production order, like the image linked in post #4 (no P-48), and it was built March 13.

I don't recall if N-11 was on the option list when I ordered my SWC, but I expect it was NOT because, if it was, I would have ordered it for sure.

IMO GM decided to wait for '64 production to release N-11 as fabricating a few for late '63 production only was uneconomical, but the option number somehow got released.

This drawing for the N11 assembly shows a 2/26/63 date which suggests it was not available for the 63 MY.

So does this drawing show the proper coupling polarity to the head pipe for a '63, or is is '64 and later. The answer to this question pretty much nails the answer to the perennial question of whether or not the off-road exhaust option was ever installed on a '63 at St Louis.
