FYI - 3G cell service is at its end of life and AT&T will shutdown 3G cell down in February 2022. Other cell service providers shutdown dates vary.

Thanks Gary, First I've heard of this.

Interesting that it's for 2015 and newer. I just checked my '07 Corvette and '10 GMC SUV using the vin #'s, and comes back "not affected". However my '20 GMC says I need to do the OTA update. Seems odd the older ones are ok.

Rich and Mark,

1) according to On Star, cell technology updates started in October. Tried to figure out how to tell from a "Drivers Information Center", but no joy

2) flip phones 3G will become not useable. Fortunately, on cell phones it'll show what type of cell technology it uses

I have an Iphone 5, which uses 3G, but will not work (except for 911) when AT&T shuts down the 3G network.
However, I did receive a letter from AT&T indicating they were going to send me a new phone (no model mentioned), at no cost.
Have not received anything as of yet, but still have a couple months to go before my old one will not work.

Many Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac vehicles on the road today use OnStar hardware, which leverages cellular networks for connectivity. As U.S. cellular carriers transition to 4G and 5G connectivity, certain vehicles using 3G connectivity may experience issues that prevent voice communications. To ensure continued service, OnStar has begun issuing over-the-air software updates to those vehicles impacted by the change.

...I have the same thing too, except mine is a Verizon 4G Kyocera which should still be OK for awhile. Verizon still has two models of flip phones still available today.
