89 Corvette Challenge on Bring a trailer

I am considering buying a 89 Corvette Challenge car that is currently on Bring a Trailer- does anybody know anything about this car or driver. ? Driver is not a name I recognize / nor is it a major sponsor. Records show it crashed out of the St Pete race and mabie another- anybody know extent of damage? What vintage groups are accepting the Challenge cars ?
Seller claims sealed race engine is currently in the car- didn't Chev replace the race engines with a assembly line engine with original vin matching car ? What HP were the race engines ?
    Your input is appreciated Bob

    Bob,

FYI - Al Lamb owns a Honda dealership in Dallas, TX. IIRC he was involved in racing. Don't know if it's the same guy that drove that Challenge car.

Original VIN engine was installed. However, race engine was offered for a nominal fee to go with the car.

David, thanks for the reply that was on your car I assume, not the car for sale. THAT race engine has got to be worth a fair penny with the car.

That offer of (nominal price) race engine was made for all cars. I do not have a Challenge Car (wish I did).

Just a fyI That 89 Challenge car sold for $40,000 plus fees on BAT looked like it had race engine / sealed
I thought the price was a bit high, but evidently whoever stepped up really wanted it and did a $5,000 knock out bid at the end

I remember seeing one at 25k 10 years ago and thinking you know that's probably not too bad a deal.

I have a thing for those and the IROC 1LE cars... then again I got my D/L in 1986.

James. I think $25-$35k is fair current market 89's closer to $35k but depends on how big a name the driver, how bad the crashes and if it has the race engine some had very professional graphics and looked great, some not so much
Stil looking, a nice 89 sold for $28k on BAT last year nice car, was for sale for a long time. Just sold my '13 427 red convertible so there is room in my garage
