1963 Wiper Motor Switch Bench Test

    Hello,

My wipers will not turn on. The wiper motor is fine as it was rebuilt and checked again by Steve Hackel. The fuse is good. I don't want to purchase another switch so I'm looking for a way to bench test JUST the switch when I remove it from the car. The plugs are correct in the back of the switch and the switch fits inside the cluster fine, so I don't think there are any grounding issues at the switch.

    Thoughts?

    Thanks

      Gerald,

Refer to Similar threads below. All you need is an ohm meter to check following the instructions. The switch applies ground to the WW motor, NOT 12VDC. The switch has to be installed or connected to a known good ground.

        Ed,

I haven't tested the wiring at the motor end. Which wires are the power as I see that the B/W wire is the ground. I will also check the wiring at the starter area also. Everything else works fine. I will also make sure that the switch is fitted properly against the cluster. The problem now is that the car is in the air on the lift with another car underneath. I'll do more research and work my options. Hope all is well.

Jerry, I believe the power wire is brown, I do not have a diagram in front of me. My car is on the lift and a car under. If your using the old harnesses, try to turn wipers on and wiggle the connectors to to verify that you don’t have a bad connection. Sometimes the ground wire connector at the motor can spread and make a open, a test light will work for testing for power at motor.

New Harness in the car. I'll get the car down in the spring and go from there.

Is the 63 switch same functionality as the 67, I forget? If so I made this up years ago which may help. Also a few other images and a pdf from Wilcox at the bottom.
