      The jam nuts are both on the rear side to "lock" the position of the nuts once the system has been correctly adjusted.
      When you have everything in place and adjusted, the equalizer should be somewhere along the threaded portion. If not, the cables are too long for proper adjustment.
      The equalizer cannot significantly move forward on the threaded shaft once properly adjusted, so that becomes a non-issue.
