Three holes in fender skirt matching layout shown in the AIM for attachment of fuel injection air cleaner. Should those holes be there on a 340 hp '63?

Re: 63 Holes in LH fender skirt
Tom, I have seen these holes opened up in the past while judging 340HP cars. The most recent was at a Northeast judging meet a couple years ago (Pre Covid) and it was a very original unrestored car with a "Born with" 340 hp engine.- Top

Re: 63 Holes in LH fender skirt
Harry,
Thanks for the thread. Radiator support does not have the opening for air intake. Can't verify the wire connector for FI unit. Has 6500 rpm tach.
Just to clarify, my car is a number matching 340hp car. Has AM radio, short mirror, "storage areas" under the seats. Has 3.70 posi rear although the rear axle code would indicate non-posi. Also has a scatter shield bell housing for some reason. The car was frame off restored at some point and color changed. In the 80's or 90's I believe. vin is 09048.- Top

Re: 63 Holes in LH fender skirt
Joe,
Good to know. I was also considering the possibility that the skirt was changed at some point due to a crash or something and they install a new or used one from a fuelie. I would add also that the intake manifold part number is correct for a 340 hp but I cannot locate a date code on it. Has the correct type Carter carb but not the original. I suppose it's possible someone tried to change it to a fuelie and it was changed back to carb.- Top

Re: 63 Holes in LH fender skirt
I saw a '63 carburetor car at a regional event that had the holes open for the air cleaner.
Now with my high paying NCRS job I am not allowed to make any comments at the show to car owners or judges. God forbid. hahaha
Anyhow I told the big blond guy with the shorts about this car. His answer I can't repeat entirely but it does like this.
John said the car used to be an FI car but the poor car owner made it a carburetor car. It was sooo funny.
That was in Marlborough Mass. John D.- Top

Re: 63 Holes in LH fender skirt
Finally got in touch with the previous owner of my car. He told me that right after buying the car in '84 he started to convert it to fuel injection. Had the air cleaner installed. Then, thankfully, it seems he changed his mind and went ahead and had it restored with the carbureted engine and kept it until 2021. Open holes are part of the car's history now.- Top
