54 engine stamp pad

I am on a roll with engine related questions today. Here is one more. Was the stamp pad painted? Mine sure does not look to have been. but it wasn't very rusty. But then there was a lot of oil leaking everywhere over the years. If it was not painted, was it the whole pad, all of the way past the distributor/oil pump shaft hole in the block? attached is a photo of mine prior to hot tanking. I believe that all I did was wipe it with a shop rag and some gasoline to clean the grime off.

Originally - yes the pad was painted - those whole engine was painted
For judging - leave the pad bare - I mask mine off - I mask from the octane recess to all the way across the number with some tape
Pad looks good
first 5 are gang stamped the next 2 are hand stamped and the F54YG is gang stamped
