1967 fuel pump lasted 55 years

I know we often talk about the poor quality of work or manufacturing with these old cars, but this fuel pump was installed on the third day of 1967 production in September 1966 and just puked out last week. I've been waiting for it to go as I knew its time had to be up soon. It made it through the Frisco Regional intact, and that was all I asked of the old pump. I have been spraying some penetrating fluid on the line connection before I try to remove the fuel line, that's what most of the dripping is from. Has anyone else had a pump last this long?

When I rebuilt the 283 in my '59 in 1995, it got a new Delco replacement(sealed) pump. It developed a leak in the diaphragm last winter. So that's "only" about 26 years.

However, the rubber hose from tank tank line to pump was original, leak free, but I changed it. After I took it off it was hard as a rock. Give that guy 62 years. Repro failed though, what a nightmare. Long story HERE.

Our 63 coupe(Feb build, orig 68k mile PG car) had it's original Delco fuel pump. Died on me coming home from the alignment shop in 2008 soon after we got it. So that's 45 years or so. BTW it had it's original radiator and lower radiator hose too.

That's a very creditable length of time!
Though my 82 CE's (January 1982 build) pump was only 37 years age, it plus all the other parts** drove 1,780+/- miles on the National Road Tour for the 2019 convention. Earned a simultaneous Founders and Bowtie; not sure that's ever been done.

** I did switch to street wheels and tires for the drive.
Also, my AC compressor is a warranty replacement... so it was probably only 35 to 36 years old at the time.

If the rubber in the diaphragm, oil seal and poppitt valvles stays intact the rest is just springs and pivot pins.

Tim, I know if a 68 435 car that had the original fuel pump on it until 2019. It was a low mileage original car but still impressive that it made it that long. It was kind of the same story. It made it through an NCRS chapter show and had to be replaced not too long after. Jeff
