1969 Tunnel insulation, splash shields and underbody pans and insulation

    Gents,
I have read all of the archived posts pertaining to the title of this post. In 2010, the last post, nothing was determined if the 69 cars had all, some, or just the trans tunnel insulation.
Since a lot of time has passed since the 2010 post, has there been any disposition on this subject or is it still some had it and some didn't. What do the judges consider on this subject too?
Blue, is a July 21st car and I just finished destroying the new tunnel insulation (with trans out). I dont know what the manufacturer of these new tunnel pieces are using for a model/mold but it definitely is not a 69 body. I also dont remember the original factory tunnel insulation being so rigid. This one came from Keen.

    TIA.

Re: 1969 Tunnel insulation, splash shields and underbody pans and insulation

'(in reference to a 68 small block stick car)'...I believe the factory installed the insulation before the body was dropped over the frame, must have as I cant see another way to install it without causing some level of damage during trans installation.

To compound matters the 68 stick cars do not have a removable trans cross member. If it was removable, this install would have been much easier.

Our car has the trans tunnel insulation, floor insulation and metal splash shields. April build 68, 3 speed stick, 300hp car.

      Phillip

What does your 1969 A.I.M. (Assembly Instruction Manual) show for installation of these parts? (I don't have this A.I.M. and have a later C3.)

Attached photo of a C3 body drop only shows foam "collar" on transmission. (Perhaps insulation is already affixed to body underside? )

My '69 built in Oct '68 has the tunnel insulation, white plastic splash shields, and metal heat shields. AIM section 1, sheet B6 and D9 shoe details of splash shields, heat shields, and tunnel insulation

              Dave,
A.I.M, Its not real specific unless im missing some pages on computer manual i have. It shows tunnel insulation and very little on splash shields. Does not even show insulation for the underbody floorboard shield which is the dilemma. did it have it or not and were they put on from the factory after the strike. Sure, these answers will never be known for this car just would like to know when they stopped installing it in 69.
Basically with trans out all of it is completely accessible. I pulled the foam collar out and will be easy to get back into place before trans goes back in. My car was missing the underbody floorboard shields and brackets as well as the front floorboard shields which were broken off. So I want to put this one back together correctly or at least how we think it came from factory.
              Thanks for your response.

                Jeff,
Perfect. So no insulation on yours in between the floor and metal shield or behind the white shield either? Mine is missing all of this so I am needing to put it back the way it should be which i am currently in the process of doing.
                Are you the original owner?
                Any pics from underneath ?

                thanks for the input.

                      Phillip------

My original owner, September, 1969-built car had the underfloor metal shields and brackets, firewall white plastic shields and brackets, and transmission tunnel insulation. There was no insulation between the underfloor shields and floorboard and no other insulation. I am not sure if it had the foam rubber between the bellhousing and undercar as this may have deteriorated and been lost prior to my checking for it. However, my general sense is that it did not have this part.

There is insulation between the floor and metal shield. I am not the original owner but did buy it a little over a year after it was put into service and everything was there from the factory when I restored the car. It had the tunnel insulation, metal heat shields, plastic splash shields, and full lenght insulation between floor and all shields.
