    Water Pump Date

What would be a correct water pump date range for a 66 427 ? Vin pad has a date of T0207IL. GM #3856284 would be an applicable pump. Does rear pan has pan head screws or oil pan bolts? Not really sure how a judge could see the pump numbers though.

    Paul------

NCRS-correct would have the pump dated within 6 months prior to engine build. In your case, the engine was assembled on February 7 and assuming the engine is original, that would have to have been in the year 1966. So, a waterpump dated between about August 7, 1965 and February 7, 1966 would be considered correctly dated.

As far as the rear screws go, attached are photos of an NOS GM #3876173 waterpump assembly (casting 3856284)[not for sale]. This pump body has casting date of K-22-66 (November 22, 1966). So, if this pump had been installed in PRODUCTION it would have been on an early to mid production 1967. Nevertheless, it's clearly evident that this pump has the slotted rear cover screws. Since these were the first type of fasteners used for big block waterpumps, your earlier pump would have had to have been the same.

Thanks Joe, Pump that’s on the motor now is not an original. I would have to remove the fan and pulley to see if any other numbers present on the casting. It’s not leaking so I’ll leave it be for now. I want to have the correct pump ready when I do decide to swap it out.

This pump is not a GM pump. I've never seen an OEM GM pump with "Made in USA" embossed on the pump. This denotes a feature common on aftermarket pumps, including ACDelco.
