Re: '67 Help with authentication - two cars

    Leif,
You have some good input here so far. If it helps you and your friend, I will share that I owned a very nice '67 Coupe approximately 5 years ago that was very well disguised, and by the price I bought it for (between $50k - $100k) I planned on the fact that was a re-stamped 435hp car. It was beautifully restored and a nice driver. I sold it basically for what I had invested in it a few years later. A friend of mine just bought a similar '67 Coupe to what I am describing knowing it had a NOM 435 engine. It supposedly (I have not seen it) has a correct code non-matching number Corvette engine. I have only seen pictures, but it looks like a very nice driver for $85k from a private owner of 20+ years. This may help you and your friend determine the market and direction for these cars?

    Best of luck,
    Eric Patty

Re: '67 Help with authentication - two cars

A friend and I looked at both cars right before the Frisco Regional, they were located 20 minutes from my house. The owner had sold his house and needed to have the cars out of his garage by the end of October. He didn't want to mess with marketing the cars and wanted a quick cash sale. Neither car had judging history that was presented to me, neither had any paperwork that was presented to me. A friend and I made an offer that was "safe" and the offer was accepted for what we thought the cars were worth. Our offer was rejected when we called to finalize the sale on the day prescribed by the seller, and we were okay with missing out on the cars for reasons I won't go into. I would have run the white car through Concours judging as it would have been a great candidate for that class. The maroon car may be a Flight judging candidate. Inspect thoroughly before purchase as with any 1967 435.

I see that these cars are now listed at the BJ Scottsdale auction. No mention of the obvious restamped motors on both cars and the repo trim tag on the white car. Hopefully that will get updated.

Is it camera angle or are the rosette rivets on the 324 VIN tag completely wrong?

Dave, it's not the camera angle.

Just a follow-up on the two cars in this post. The '67 maroon convertible sold for $100,000 and the '67 white coupe sold for $142000. Of course, we're all aware of the fees involved...these are the selling prices. I think my friend did very well considering all we knew about these cars.

Leif, I agree that your friend did very well. Cars are really selling for high prices at auction this year.
