    64 voltage regulator

    vette wizards:
along with the gas gauge ,temp gauge, wiper problems(all inop). i may have a clue about that as it may be in the ignition switch connection which i will try as soon as my crunched back lets me.

    ..
the amp gauge always reads + 35 and never goes back to zero. i think the voltage regulator is the problem. my question is when i change the regulator, do i have to flash the alternator?
any electron expert advice will be appreciated.

There is no "flashing of the alterantor" procedure, that is relegated to generators in the previous generation of Covettes....
Both Alternators and V/Rs in C2 cars are "plug and play" (assuming the V/R is adjusted properly)...

      thanks for that info.
now i've got a real problem. i just got under the dash to remove the ign switch and reseat the harness plug. cleaned it thinking that may have caused the gauge problem. that didn't work out well. now i have no power to the start the car. there are 4 wires that go to the switch. acc is not wired. maybe a wire in the harness got loose?
      i'm baffled.any guesses?

Tug on each of the wires at the rear of the plastic connector to see if one is loose.

i will do that as soon as my back allows. getting old isn't fun.. there are 4 wires in the harness connector. the manual circuit shows 5 wires. which one is correct?

My Dr Rebuild schematic for 63 shows:
Red, Pink (two wires to the same terminal), Brown and Purple (unless my old eyes got the colors wrong).
I suspect 64 would be the same.

              my harness connector :
              batt red
              sol violet
              acc blk
              ign blk/pink
i'm going to chk the batt wire for 12 volts and move it around to see if loose.
other wires to see if loose
other than that, may have to put it on truck to shop and somebody to figure it out.
i'm out of ideas and airspeed
