    another C2 fuel sending unit question

    Hi folks,

    On my 1965 327 convertible I installed a replacement fuel sending unit from LIC a couple of years ago. I recall that the old unit still worked, but seemed quite rusted and the screen was torn, etc. The new unit does work, but reads too low. It was a bit of a hassle to remove the old one, so I just have put up with a bit of inaccuracy. I tried to bend the replacement sender to adjust, but no luck doing that with fuel in the tank.

    Has anyone found that a new replacement that functions acceptably well? If not, who does a good restoration on an original?

      If the "old unit" was original it can be restored; IIRC John Wolf does this work..

      John Wolf & Co. Inc. provides Antique Automobile and Aircraft Instruments in Willoughby, OH. And also Boats, Gas Tank Sending Units, Custom Instrumentation, Temperature Gauges, and much extra. Visit us for more.

      Otherwise, I'd bet all the reproductions come from only 1 or 2 manufacturers regardless of which repro vendor you purchase them from.

        Frank,

        You must have missed the thread from a few weeks ago reporting that John Wolf no longer restores sending units.

          Sure did - apologize to the poster "in need". Wolf should take that service off his web site then.

            Afraid I did not see that. Any other options?

              I recall that someone mentioned an alternative restorer in the thread from a few weeks ago. Search for that thread.

                On the repro senders, I found you need to bend the float arm down about 1/8 inch to get it to read more accurately. It's possible to do this with the unit installed in the car if you can enlist the help of a person with a skinny hand and long arm. When you get down to about 3 gallons of gas left, jack up the right side of the car which will shift all the remaining fuel to the left and away from the sender, then you can reach down and bend the float arm slightly downward. This is also a good trick for changing the sender. Of course make SURE if you get under the car and attempt to remove the sender to have the vehicle safely supported first.

                  I made attempts to bend the sender down. Could not seem to do it with left hand. Then I started to consider what tool would work. Any ideas from the experts? I would say that the gauge is reading 1/8 to 1/4 lower than the actual fuel in the tank.;

                    John,
                    See the thread "C2 Wiper Motor" which was started on Sept. 22, 2021 by Enzo Colosimo. It includes info regarding sending unit restoration.
