When did the change from the 68-69E accel "sheet metal" lever to the 70 style accel rod occur ? The 69 assembly manual sheet UPC 6 sheet D1 shows the 70 style rod. The date on the sheet is unreadable. The 70 Assembly Manual Sheet UPC6 Sheet D1 is dated 4-18-69. My late 69 (Q15) has the early sheet metal lever. Recently I saw on Hemmings a 69 coupe for sale that has the early sheet metal style lever. The body build date was P03. Did some late cars have the early style lever ? Did the change not occur until start of 70 production ? My 69 was restored in the early 90's before I bought it so I do not know what style lever the car had before it was restored. Have any other late 69 cars been seen with the early style lever ?

There were actually 3 lever/rod assemblies used for the accelerator over the 1968-69 period. Early 1968 used lever GM #3921620. Later 1968 through most or all of 1969 used lever GM #3934093. Both of these levers were fabricated steel ("sheet metal"). Late 1969 may have used a fabricated ROD of GM #3972622. The latter was also used for 1970-72.
My original owner 1969 built in mid-September, 1969 has the 3934093 fabricated steel lever. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Joe
Thanks for the reply and the information. It looks like St. Louis was using up the fabricated steel levers in stock at least to mid-September before switching to the fabricated steel rods. Maybe they had enough fabricated steel levers in stock to last to the end of 1969 production in December. Hopefully we will hear from other owners of known original late production cars.Larry

Re: 69L Accelerator Rod
Thanks Stan. From this small sample it appears the accelerator rod change may have been implemented after 1969 production ended. Hopefully we will hear from more Nov. Dec. 1969 cars.Larry
