    Two-Tone Interior Paint & Dye for 1965

    Hello all,

I have a 1965 coupe that I'm redoing the interior for. The interior is supposed to be two-tone, white/blue, trim code 451 FF. The Ditzler code for the instrument panel. lower windshield lower valence, heater panels, etc is 13069, Medium Dark Blue. I ordered paint from TCP Global Restoration Shop and the paint looks way too dark. To make matters worse my dash pads are faded on top and I need to dye them, but cannot find "Medium Dark Blue" dye for a 65 - only "Bright Blue" is available.

Does anyone else have experience with TCP Global Restoration Shop colors? Are they accurate?
Any idea where I might find Medium Dark Blue dye for a 65?

    Thanks for your help.

When trying to match a color I have sent a small part with the color I want to TCP and for a very reasonable charge they custom matched the color. Mixing paint from a code is going to get you close at best.

the Corvette America now Top Flight Automotive dyes is a great match and sprays very well. I also have a local automotive paint store that will mix anything for you, paint code or scanned

Unfortunately the shop that is doing the paint work for me already painted all of the interior pieces and I no longer have an example of the original color other than pictures.

This may or may not help you since you have a 65. I spent a great deal of time researching interior bright blue paints for 67's. I was able to study many original cars. There were three documented interior bright blues used. They are Bright Blue 3 gloss Ditzler 13071, Dark Bright Blue 3 gloss Ditzler 13228, and Medium Bright Blue 60 gloss Ditzler 13223.

          Dark Bright Blue Ditzler 13228

Center dash (including riveted end tabs)
          Radio side panels
          Lower windshield trim
          Speaker grille
          Jack wells
          Hardtop header front
          Shifter console was a wildcard.
It was painted by a supplier. Most guys use medium bright blue on all interior parts since it is the only version sold by corvette parts suppliers. This is likely the case with your 65 blue version. About 8 years ago I located a paint supplier in WI who mixed me up all three versions of bright blue in lacquer and in rattle cans. However, recent environmental laws prohibit the sale of lacquer paints. Since you have the Ditzler paint code as I did give Finishmaster in Appleton, WI a call at 800-779-6520 or 920-731-2772. Good luck.

            Dereck,

TCP Global in San Diego still sells lacquer paint. If you buy at least one quart, TCP can fill rattle cans (up to 8 rattle cans per quart) with your paint. I recently bought one quart of 3% gloss Rally Red, with 3/8ths of the quart put in 3 rattle cans. They ground ship to the lower 48 states. If the paint is to be shipped to a California address, you can only purchase their low VOC version of the paint.
