Method To Adhere HP Decals To Valve Covers?

I have gone through two sets of HP water soluble decals trying to adhere them to my valve covers on a 61. I have used lacquer thinner and Acetone to clean off the valve covers. I will adhere the decals and they will be fine at first. After a while they curl off. I could use some suggestions so I do not keep going through them. Thanks! Mark

I don't recall ever having an issue applying the decals. I used denatured alcohol to clean the valve cover area and then let the valve cover air dry. I also hold the decal by the corners and let it drip for awhile before attempting it to apply it. If you are having any issue with placing it in the correct position or straight, spray some dishwater soap (Dawn works well) mixed with water on the valve cover first. This allows you to slide the decal around without damage. When it's in place, gently blot it with a paper towel to help dry it.

If all else fails, either try a different decal supplier, or "dust" the dried decal after applied with a dab of satin clear paint.

Thanks for the suggestions! I guess that I will be purchasing and trying another set.

How long did you soak the decals before holding it by the corner ?

Using Solvaset or similar product should help.

Thanks for the advice! I soak the labels according to the instructions-answering the previous post.

If your cars not going to be judged you can get mylar decals in most hp designations that will last for years, easy to apply and look OK on a driver.

Thanks! This 61 Low Horse FI hopes to go through the rigorous judging in the future.
