    fiberglass rear spring

A friend of mine installed a fiberglass rear spring on his 66 convertible. He said that the car rode much smoother than the original spring. I was thinking of doing the same to my 66. Any thoughts?
    Thanks

    Re: fiberglass rear spring

Mel, Many years ago I installed a fiberglass leaf on my '64 Coupe - driven daily during the summer (mid 80s). The fit required a slight modification but I don't remember exactly what that was. It did improve the ride a little, my current coupe has a repro steel one and rides fine. Good luck, Don H.

      Mel,

I installed a fiberglass rear leaf spring in my 67 coupe and it made a world of difference. A quieter, smoother, and more stable ride with better handling so it was definitely worth it. They can make a spring to accommodate what ever kind of ride you tell them you want for the car.

Thanks to all. Any suggestions on where to purchase one? I will start investigating. It will be a good winter projects. It snows early in the Adirondacks.

Be mindful of the spring rate and shocks you choose. See https://www.forums.ncrs.org/showthre...ocks-for-C2-C3

              Re: fiberglass rear spring

As is the case above most of these aftermarket fiberglass springs have DOUBLE the rate of the OE rear spring, and no off the shelf shock has sufficient rebound damping to control them.

The number one cause of rear ride harshness is spring link cushion compression and hardening. A new set will do wonders. Buy them from GM. Aftermarket types a junk. The GM part number is in your AIM.
