two questions regarding my 95 Corvette convertible

My 95 Corvette convertible has a rubber block that is somehow attached to the underbody of the car that is supposed to act
as a stop for the spare tire to keep it from sliding forward. You can't see this part until you drop the spare tire carrier down,
This part is falling apart on my car and I got docked points at NCRS judging for this. My local Chevy dealer can't find the part
in their parts books and can't tell what it is called or a part number for it. Can anybody help with this? My second problem is that
the defroster grill in the center of the dash pad by the windshield keeps popping up and won't stay down. I don't see what is
supposed to hold it down. It pops up on one end or the other every time you close one of the doors.......anybody got a fix for this?

A picture would help. Are you referring to this foam pad that is glued to the underside of the cross-member?

I didn't look at the part that close.....I thought it was made of rubber.....Mine is falling apart and it is located above the spare tire carrier
above the very back of the carrier when looking at it from the rear of the car. If that is the location of this foam piece then I guess that's what
I need. Any source for this part and what does it do in the first place? the most puzzling aspect of this is that we are talking about a 1,000 mile car
that has never been driven in the rain and never had the spare tire removed till last weekend and yet this part is crumbling like it's been through
      all kinds of abuse.

        Winston,

Check with NCRS Member Dirk Gaddis https://www.corvettechassis.com/ who has several C4 part out cars.

Also, check with https://mirrockcorvette.com/ Don't recommend https://www.corvettemods.com/ in Ft. Worth, unless you go there in person

What do you plan to do with your car? If you intend to take it for Crossed Flags, then LEAVE IT ALONE!

Having judged your car at Frisco, you have a very nice original car - leave it that way (at least until you finish Crossed Flags).

Problem with this part is CONDITION and CONDITION IS NOT JUDGED DURING CROSSED FLAGS.

Replace this part and you will fix your CONDITION issue, but, depending on the appearance of your new part, you may now be generating an ORIGINALITY issue (deduction). Best to leave, as much as you can, your original car alone. Judging Reference Manual (NCRS Store) has sections on how to prepare for Bowtie and Crossed Flags judging.

Right now, I would concentrate on any Performance Verification PV (Operations) issues you car might have. NCRS PV manual is also available from our Store. Practice PV judging sheets are available on this site under SERVICES - Judging Awards drop down menu towards top of this page.

It's a moot point as to what the part number was for the part in question because it was never available in SERVICE. This is not unusual for a part like this.

Re: two questions regarding my 95 Corvette convertible

I agree with David, what you do is determined by the goals you have for the car. In my case, I started with a car I picked up off a wholesale lot with 98k on the clock. I had to replace the interior and restore the engine bay and chassis. It was never going to be a crossed flags candidate. I have never found that pad in any parts catalog. Below is a picture of where the pad is applied. The part is easy to make. Mine took no deductions in chapter or regional flight judging. The pad is made of a dense foam about 3/8" in thickness. As can be seen in the photo above it is a 1/2 circle about 5-1/2" in diameter. You can get squares of the foam on Amazon, Ebay or any craft store. I used a can that was about 5-1/2" as a template/guide and cut the foam with an Exacto knife. I then glued it in place with some weather strip adhesive.

When you are ready to replace it, contact Mirrock Corvettes. He may have a nice used one. Or, you can probably make your own.

I agree with Ed, originals do sometimes show up on ebay or with one of the C4 parts salvagers. You could also check with Shawn at CorvetteNutz. I made my own and it took no deductions. I had to buy the foam in a pack of 10 sheets so I now have 9-1/2 extra sheets. I would send you one but I'm in the process of moving so all my resto supplies are buried at the back of a storage unit.

I don't think these are the exact ones I bought but they look similar:
