Re: Coker Tire Redline Radial Tire

I have a set of Diamondbacks on my '69 that are 215/70/15 and they are terrific. I wanted to leave the manufacturer logo, etc. on the tire (just my preference) and was told that there was no room for the red line as manufactured on any of the tires they supply. They said they would search other tires where there would be room based on the location of the manufacturer's embossing and where I wanted the red line. They found a Firestone tire that would work and that's what they purchased and put the redlines on. They look great and as an added bonus. as I understand the judging criteria, if I ever have the car judged again, the tires will get a standard deduction that will allow for condition points since they are the correct replacement size and are an OEM supplier. The plain sidewall that they usually supply is a full deduction(?). My point is that if you know of a tire that you like, they will probably get those for you and do their magic.
I also have a Coker wide white tire on my '51 Chevrolet but since the top speed of that car (without damaging the engine) is around 60 MPH I have not found any problems with them.

Tom - if you go to the Diamondback website you'll find they have a new radial tire mold that has the "piecrust" look of the bias ply and you can apply any color stripe. I just installed a set of goldlines on my '65 and they look terrific. Plus they required very little weight to balance and have a great ride.

Another reason the use a machine with the stud adapter is most aftermarket stock looking rims are not concentric to the center opening! Found this out the hard way on my 66 chevelle, using the stud adapter on the Hunter helped but finally had to bite the bullet and buy real rally rims, still looking for two 15 inchers!

67RedlineDBs.jpgThe Diamond Backs I have had on my '67 for about 6 years are 205x75x15s, they were Michelin X radials, not sure they have those anymore.....

They refer to them as 6.70R15's. These are not a current OE tire with the sidewall smoothed and gold line added. They are a new mold from Diamondback with the bias pie crust look. Very cool.

                    Tom,

I put Michelin X's on my 67 in 1969 when I came across the country from NY to California in 69. Then 20 years later I put another set of the same Michelin X's on in CA. Then when I got into NCRS in the 2000's and judging I went to the Coker redline radials in about 2008. Just like yours and I ran out the 5 year warranty.

In 2015, I took the NCRS road tour from California to the Denver NCRS convention over some hot desert roads. I guess they were out of warranty after 5 years, as on the way back, both fronts delaminated and it was like running on tires that were shaped like a bowl on the bottom.

Luckily after bouncing around the road for a while (and listening to my wife complain) I found a tire shop open in Beaver, Utah on a Saturday and they had the right size cheap replacement tires. I have since gone to the Diamondback Redline Tires for a 67 which were based upon the old Michelin mold. They have been on about 6 years but I haven't really tested them out to any extent. But I think they are a lot better than the Cokers, more like the Michelin X. What ever happend to the 20,000 mile warranty on tires. Nowadays tires are trash after 5 years.

The Cokers were really trash from the beginning.

                    Have fun,
