1967 spare what size is correct / fits ?

Time to put a spare in my 67 Convertible rally wheels what size tire fits in the spare ? standard rally bolts /

I have the repro red lines on the ground, heard they do not fit in the spare. THANKS Bob

    Bob,
Are you asking about bias ply or radial sizes? If radial, I have 205/75R15 Redline Radials on my car but they will not fit the tub, after some trial and error I found the 195/75R15 fits snug but it fits. If I get a flat I only need to make it far enough for a repair or a replacement tire.

You heard? Try fitting one of the road tires to the spare tub to find out for sure.

What you put in the tub does not have to match what is on the other four. I used an off-brand 205/75R/15 made by Matrix and it fits in the tub fine. I use the same tire type in both my C2's. It's only there for an emergency. Just use longer forward bolts as the tire is wider.

An off-brand tire made today is probably better than the best production tire installed in the 1960's.

          Bob,
I have some tires and wheels that would make for a good spare for your '67 that I would like to sell. If interested send me a private message or call me at 419-583-9944. I am in Ohio.

Why not just put a origional type spare in the well. Its not like you will be driving on it for a long ways unless you are on a cross country trip

If it's a posi rear you really should have both rear tires the same size.

Another option is to get another repro redline, mounted, balanced, filled, checked for leaks, then remove the air and it will fit in the tub.

Carry a 12V air pump so if you ever need the spare.... air it up.

Or you could have the typical 10-12/32s" new tread depth shaved down to 3 or 4, which will reduce the inflated OD by at least nearly a half inch.

Yes that's what I do. I have one that holds air I keep in the well. if I was going on a road tour I'd probably do something different. I have heard S10 mini spares work well.
