    66 interior rear view mirror question

    Hi- I am sure this has been discussed before, but I have a 66 (37xx) that is unrestored and very original, that has a "day/night" rear view mirror; yet I could find no mention of that in the 66 TIMJG (2019 6th Ed, 1st Printing)-Pg 26 and 27-which states that "1966 models were equipped with one of two possible mirrors; neither of which are day/night.
    However- In Noland Adam's book (pg. 373) it is stated that an 0ptional (Z01) comfort and conv. group was available in 1965;
    planned for 1966, but dropped, and the day/night mirror and backup lights became standard, and were installed on ALL 66 corvettes
    This mirror is 10" long, has the day/night knob on the bottom, and is stamped "guide glare proof" on the top edge.-No date on glass.
    Probably something simple I missed-
    E.J.

      Re: 66 interior rear view mirror question

      The question has been covered extensively on the TDB. The change occurred around 2015.

      Here's one thread.

      ps, your mirror should be approximately 8" wide, not 10" if it is made for a 66 Corvette.

        Re: 66 interior rear view mirror question

        I too had often wondered about the 1966 Day/Night Mirror... but eventually came to the conclusion that it NEVER happened. Indeed, it was initially scheduled as a Corvette option (as part of the Z01 Comfort & Convenience group)... but that option was CANCELED on 7-26-65 (according to some early AIM pages that I've collected).

        In doing so, the BACKUP lights became standard across the entire Chevy line (along with a few other safety features)... and print literature was updated. The DAY/NIGHT mirror then became a dealer installed accessory... most likely a bean counters decision (and a popular revenue generator for dealerships).

        In viewing several 1966 assembly line images, I've yet to find any Day/Night mirror... so it could NOT be a 'standard' part.
        Here are a few examples:
