    1973 Exhaust Tips

    Hello All:

I cannot find in the 1973 AIM any dimensions as far as the distance the exhaust extensions should protrude from the rear valance

    bezels.

Can someone point me the right reference or give me the dimensions

    Thank you

    Roger

I recall a past thread about this, but I can't find it at the moment. Maybe your search skills are better...

I believe the conclusion was there is no specified dimension for this. Today, I see tips installed at a variety of depths on original and restored cars. None that I've seen are recessed from the valance, some are flush, most extend from the valance by various amounts.

Someone with direct knowledge may chime in to confirm or challenge this, but given production tolerances on the assembly line it's likely the tips were installed at various depths, maybe even varying side-to-side a bit on the same car.

      Roger,
Here's the only dimensions marked in the AIM on page 328 UPC 8C Sheet 6...top right corner ( at least where it is in my AIM).
I only have mine extend barely an inch. I think they look the best if the " curl up" just clears the rear valance bezel. When they are installed sticking too far out they just look crappy...IMO.

The 0.996 dimension is top clearance with the bezel. But I'm surprised this dimension is three significant digits. 1.0" +- 0.2" seems more realistic.
