    69 L71 Exhaust recomendations

I have been looking at various exhaust systems (not side) as I complete chassis restoration and would like to know if anyone has suggestions. I would like a top flight when I get this this finished so I want "correct" but not sure I want a rusty system either...

    Thanks,

    Mark

It's virtually impossible to obtain a 100% correct system. Even if you could obtain all NOS components, it would not be 100% correct due to the difference in PRODUCTION versus SERVICE rear pipes and mufflers.

I think your best choice these days would be a Corvette Central system. Keep in mind that 1969 427 originally used a 2" system, the only year big block that did so.

Thanks. I get that. I guess this is virtually the same a ZIP. An aluminized welded system.

            Mark,

Corvette central offers an aluminized and carbon steel system. The most accurate system you can buy is from Garner Exhausts:https://www.gardnerexhaust.com/exhau...ission-system/

You might have to shorten the CC made header tubes.
Just to make up for the rear pipes not having a long enough stretched opening.

The original exhaust is double walled with crinkle bends. As Joe said, no replacement system will be as original.

I agree. The Gardner is only system that I am aware of that has the crinkle bends on the rear pipes:

Hard to say for sure based on that picture, but it sure looks aluminized to me from this distance. If so, that is a 50% deduct right off the bat. Then we will look at the pipes and mufflers. Last I heard there is a configuration issue with the muffler(s).

The Gardner set can be ordered in carbon steel. There is a 100 upcharge. The mufflers ship separate from what I understand and need to be welded to the rear pipes.

Thanks guys. I have talked to Gardner and they seem to be the closest thing. I may have some NOS header pipes and can weld the mufflers.
