65 Coupe Lectric Limited main wiring harness

The ballast resistor hot wire that goes through the firewall grommet is 3 in too short on my new LL harness. Why do the aftermarket harness suppliers seem to cut the wires too short? You cannot start pulling as this could pop some bulb sockets out of the cluster housing. Looks like I will need to cut, solder splice and heat shrink a cover over the splice.

    Dave,
I installed all new LL harneses in my '67 seven years ago and, although a bit shorter than I would've liked in places, I didn't have anything close to the issue you're having. Two quick questions: Are you coming through the firewall with the harness in the correct locale and is your ballast resistor in the correct location on the firewall?

      Yes to both

I have an LL harness in my 63 and didn't encounter this; I have heard some of the dash bulb wires are a bit short but nothing about the ballast resistor wire. Prob worth a phone call to LL maybe.

LL will always tell you that it is your fault. Not their's.

Not the best picture, Dave, but you'll get the idea. My '67 with LL harness to ballast resistor.

              Dave,

I agree with the others, I installed a LL main harness in my 63 coupe years ago and did not experience any issues. I would take a few pics to show the problem and give them a call.

All the above are reasons to use M&H wiring for Corvettes!

I've used M&H on one and Lectric Limited on the other to fully rewire both my 65's and found NO difference between the two products. The quality was equal and the fit was perfect on both.

Usually if you order all the wiring harnesses for your car they will give a 10% discount.

I recently had a bad experience installing the rear compartment light on a 1970 coupe. LL wires were too short and pins would not stay in the light socket.

I used a LL dash harness on a 66 about 12 yrs ago and the bulb sockets didnt want to stay in the cluster housing.

That's the chief complaint I've heard over the hears about the LL dash harness.
