Yes, I had this type of thing on my original 1969 heads and I've seen it on others, too.

By the way, I think these markings were originally done with grease pencil rather than chalk.

I read somewhere that the forklift truck operators in the engine warehouse could not readily see (in the case of SB engines anyway), the prefix decal on the back of the R.S. valve cover as the engines were stacked front facing out. Therefore, they added the grease mark engine prefix to the front of the right head front surface to make their job easier.
