Re: Wiper transmission arms attachment to wiper motor shaft
Gary,
Sounds like a glorified garden hose washer to me but I bet the original is different. The ID of the reproduction part you show will just swim on that 3/8" shaft. I can't seem to find the exact GM specs on the original 3764098 spacer, if you have them please post.
You may be better off just making one out of a better material that rubber.- Top

Re: Wiper transmission arms attachment to wiper motor shaft
I spoke to a friend yesterday who just put the wiper motor back in his 67. When he removed there was no washer between the arms, but tried to put one that he bought from Corvette Central and couldn't put the clip on. There was no noise before or after,He has owned this car for over 40 years.- Top

Re: Wiper transmission arms attachment to wiper motor shaft
Bob,
I agree, my 67 Corvette wipers never made any noise and there was no evidence of a spacer so they must self destruct with time. Years ago I bought one like the picture Gary shows and it seemed so wrong I think I removed it. Always wondered about this part.- Top

The GM P&A catalogs I looked at list the specs for spacer GM # 3764098 as: 1/8” dia x 11/64” thick. That part was used back in the late 1950s in passenger cars, and later in Corvairs. In any case, the P&A description doesn’t make sense to me given the image that appears in some other GM parts documents, such as this one:

Regarding the LIC, Paragon, etc. part swimming on the 3/8” shaft, if their part is indeed an accurate reproduction then I don’t think the spacer functions as suggested in the AIM. Based on John Hinckley’s description, I think the spacer serves to push the two transmission arm away from each other twice per wiper motor shaft rotation. I’m still awaiting an NOS retainer for that shaft, and when that comes I’ll see if I can install the LIC spacer the way I think it’s intended to go.

Re: Wiper transmission arms attachment to wiper motor shaft
Gary,
I am going to guess 7/8"diameter and 11/64" .171 thick and no indication of the hole ID.
I could not make sense of it when I tried to install the part so let me know what you think after you try to install.- Top

Re: Wiper transmission arms attachment to wiper motor shaft
I thought I would try this plastic spacer instead of trying to fight with the spacer LICC sent out. It's made out of a plastic scraper used for removing stripping material. It's about 1/16" thick. Thoughts?
