I have looked in my TIMJG to acquire the proper black shine w/o help. Should they be flat or gloss ?

Re: C2 Bumper Brace Paint Finish
Gene,
I dip painted all of the bumper brackets for my ‘66 using thinned, semi-gloss black Rustoleum enamel, bought in quart cans. With the right amount of thinning (it’s much too thick right out of the can) you can make it thin enough to run off, leaving the occasional drip, runs, puddles, or bubble blisters that closely mimic what are seen on original GM brackets. To dip them, I took two, plastic sheet rock mud trays, cut off fine end on each, then epoxied them end to end. That was plenty long for the longest of brackets. I used the same tray system to dip paint other brackets (e.g., front sway bar brackets) that GM originally painted using their flow-coat, flood-painting system that John Hinckley describes so well in the archives.
A downside to dip painting is you always need to have a minimum amount, so you never really finish your supply and start new like you do with spray cans.
