help on GM gaskets part numbers 46338 and 3993890

Hey guys, wishing everyone well. Currently in possession of a couple of old Gm gaskets and wondering what bags these applications may be. One bag has Group .289 with part #46338 and states Gasket Unit. The second bag has Group .289 part #3993890 and states Gasket. Any help with the application, contents, years available, and/or part number lineage would be great. Im not even sure if these are corvette specific. Thanks in advance.

    Rick,

According to info I have derived off the web, the #3993890 is a steel shim head gasket " "

The #46338 comes up empty in the search.

Agree. When GM got close to running out of seven digit part numbers in the early to mid seventies, they found some unused six digit numbers, which plugged the hole until the new eight digit system was ready.

The six digit numbers that I've seen from that era mostly start with 3, but I've seen some that start with 4.

Yes, it could be a GM part number but, if it is, it's an ANCIENT one.

Thanks Rick and hope you're doing well too. Looked up the number in the 53-82 Corvette Parts Catalog and no dice on finding that short #46338 part number listed for Cylinder Heads Gaskets .IMG_9030.jpg
