    Re: C2 hardtop installation

    Michael,

I would suggest all four mounting point is the rear deck lid. The two side mounting points will not secure the hard top enough on the deck lid. The hardtop will move around and the lower rear weatherstrip of the top will wear into the paint of the deck lid. With enough time, it would even wear into the deck lid fiberglass. You can prevent the wear by placing a clear vinyl protector on the deck lid where the weatherstrip contacts it. But, with all four mounting points on the deck lid, the top will be securely mounted which will hold it in place as good a possible. If you do not want to drill your original deck lid, you can find another one on the internet for anywhere from $ 150.00 to $ 500 and have it painted to match your car. It is an easy swap. Hope this helps in your decision.

Mike I removed the cap. Cap screws from my top years ago always Ben a PIA to get them through the holes. I have no complaints about not using them

        Mike,

Ask someone close to you that has a convertible with a hardtop to make a template as to where the holes go on the decklid. I did that and the holes I drilled in my 66 lined up dead on. Good luck to you

              Mike,

One other thing about the template. It should take the shape of the entire decklid. This way the orientation of the holes to the decklid will be spot on.

Would the two holes in front of the convertible top latch be enough to secure the top without drilling into the top of the deck?

Do you have the 1966 Chassis Service Manual, ST72? If so, check pages 1B-51 & 52 for step-by-step instructions per the General.
