White hood release cable on 71's?

In the past 6 months, I've run across 2 different 71's with white-sheathed hood release cables. They are the late-68/69 type with the flag on one end. Both cars are relatively unmolested, but have been through enough owners that there is no way to verify the source of those cables. One is in the 12xxx vin range, the other in the 14xxx range.
I'm wondering about the source of these: 1) factory assembly line, 2) GM over the counter, or 3) aftermarket supplier. Any thoughts? The attaching hardware is seemingly unmolested, btw. Anyone else seen one of these on a 71?

My '71 is in the 10xxx range I am the second owner and have had it since it was eight months old. It has the black sheathed hood release cable.

Mike... I'm not the original owner but my 71 has a white sheath cable, in rough shape, and I believe it original to the car.

I have a white sheathed cable on my mid-July 1970 Corvette, VIN 15552. During my restoration, I painted it chassis black (except the metal ends) as it looked rather shabby and weathered from age. Now that I know more about the two jacket colors, I'm thinking I may carefully remove that recent paint and let the originality be presented.

In the 6th edition of the 1970-1972 TIM&JG, page 193, 3rd paragraph indicates "A black nylon-encased cable with ..." I figured mine may have been painted black and the black paint wore off over the years, as I was not the original owner, thus I "restored" it to be black.

Perhaps a survey of '70 and '71 owners on this hood release cable topic may be prudent!

Interesting! The orange hood pictured is 57 earlier than yours. Probably the same day. (About 4 assembly-line hours’ difference).
