Re: C3 Caliper bolts
Bob------
1965-E1967 used black phosphate finished place bolts. L 1967+ used black phosphate finished conventional bolts. It's possible that much later C3 used zinc plated bolts but definitely not for late 1967-73. Usually, I believe zinc plated bolts represent replacements. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: C3 Caliper bolts
Joe,
Unless there was a print - part number change, which we do know know of, then there was no zinc.
And those that know a little metallurgy will tell you its not what you want to do, the plating process produces hydrogen embrittlement.
When I bought them in 1980 from GM, they were the same as those that got put on the cars in the 60's.- Top

Re: C3 Caliper bolts
You're welcome. By the way, place bolts are designed so that the head provides a locking function. They are still used today for some applications. I don't know why GM stopped using them when they went to the 2nd design calipers. Obviously, cost must have been part of the reason but if a locking feature was considered necessary for 1st design calipers, I don't know why it would not be equally important for 2nd design and the conventional bolts used for 2nd design were not used with a lock washer or any other locking mechanism. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
