66 Valve Stem Caps>Dill 627 -Where to purchase them?

AFAIK the below are the correct Valve Stem Caps that came with the 66 Corvettes.

The SCHRADER caps of the configuration used in the mid-60s are not easy to find; but the DILL caps, specifically the DILL 627 Valve Cap embossed DILL 627, are readily available.

I could not find (Maybe missed it) any of the above for sale in the latest "Driveline". Who would be the go to
member/vender that has these for sale? Let me know on this thread or PM me>Thanks in Advance>Larry

Re: 66 Valve Stem Caps>Dill 627 -Where to purchase them?

Dill 626 caps were first used on Corvettes in 1960. Metal caps were used before that. Early 60's DILL 627's used bigger font, had a rounded nub in the middle, and are slightly taller. These are scarce as hen's teeth and I have seen them only on Bowtie cars. The one in the attached pic is the only one I have and I found it in a junk box of random caps.

Late '60's through the present (my JD mower has them) use the smaller font with depression in the nub and are a little shorter. I'm not exactly sure when the cutoff was between the older and newer styles in the mid-60's.

Schrader caps are usually also numbered. What Schrader cap number is the hard one to find for Midyears?

Thanks Bob for nice report. I did buy some from a member which I assume are not "THE ORIGINALS" AS SHOWN.(Far left)
I hope I am not wrong assuming that they will pass judging. Picture below is the original type "Schrader Type Caps"-Larry

Just a SWAG on my part, but my guess is that Schrader number is a mold number since they would have been making these by the millions. If so that number is of no significance.

Oops! I see I put DILL 626. No such thing. It is DILL 627.

A friend of mine was the manager of a large tire shop. They did a lot of recaps for the big rigs also.
"Red" had buckets of old valve stem caps. So I asked him if I could look thru them to pick out the Dills with the large font.
I had a restaurant then and Red came in most every night, He said take two buckets home and pick up what I want etc.
I found a ton of the Dills with the large font in the old days.

So.... under the definition of learning and understanding what is considered acceptable for judging - these valve stem caps, they are repro's --- never having seen an original, I am curious - would these caps pass judging? Are they "good enough" ...... or so good as they would not earn a point deduction?

                      Ed,
Having had mine judged four times, I don't remember getting a point deduct for the reproduction caps...maybe a "dot" and a mention but that's about it.

Terry, likely the number is the cavity number of a a very large multi cavity mold, ....only way to make thousands a day.

That's what I was trying to get at. I just didn't know the correct terms to use. Thanks for the clarification.

Enclosed is a box of NOS caps. I took a picture to show the taller earlier caps.
