    1960 U-Joint recommendation

Does anyone have a recommended supplier for u-joints for a 1960? I've searched the TDB and found that Spicer pops up a lot. I wasn't sure if I should buy the u-joints from a Corvette repro supplier or local auto parts store. Thanks for any assistance.

I'm a huge fan of Spicer u-joints. Buy the ones WITHOUT the zerk/grease fittings.

Spicer's are good. Got mine from Summit Racing. FYI - I don't think anyone makes U - joints in the USA any more. The ones I got were made in Mexico. I would not be concerned about brand name products manufactured in Mexico, quality control appears to be very good. Made in Asia -- different story.

There's a lot mentioned in the TBD about whether zerk fittings are acceptable. I know that the u-joints are stronger without zerk fittings, but isn't it extra work to have to remove the joints to grease them?

          Pete,
They don't get greased after install. If you're not going to be driving your car in inclement weather, they most likely will never need replacement (or grease) again in your lifetime.

Go with Spicers (and yes, greasless) don't buy the Chiwanese versions from the big box Corvette vendors, when I showed a set of those to my driveline guy in Orlando he said to throw them in the garbage and he wouldn't install them.

Leif and Frank, thank you for the replies and advice. I never drive in inclement weather, so I'm going with the Spicers with no grease fitting.

There are at least 2 Spicer 1310 series "lubed for life" (non zerk fittings) u-joints for your application. One is of conventional forged construction and is configured pretty much like the original u-joints. The other is a forged powder metal u-joint. It is configured somewhat differently from the original u-joints. However, it is superior to the aforementioned type and is much stronger.

Would the Spicer 5-1310X (non-greaseable) be a good choice?
