    New carbs. Checked intake with propane torch and also a smoke machine.

      Ed, where are the old carbs. what was wrong with them, if you still have the old center carb. try it and see what happens , does your car have power brake system and you said you isolated the engine vacuum from everywhere,

        ok update I acquired a known good center carb and idle is perfect was able to adjust idle down to 600 rpm. Idle air bleeds measured .077 on both carbs. Carbs were NOS Holley from the circa 1990's with new gaskets.

            Well not yet the carb that works is borrowed. I now have to figure out whats wrong with my carb.

              I had issues off and on for 18 years with a 68 L71. Got maybe two good full seasons out of it along with back trouble and scrapped knuckles from removing and replacing carbs after rebuild. And finally solved the problem. I sold it. 😀

                OK issue solved, gasket wrong between base plate and body blocking idle fuel passages. Thanks for all the help. Ed

                  Thought you said they were new Carbs. you install, I guess they were rebuild by someone at one point glad you found the problem with the wrong gasket.
