After reconditioning or renewing all major components in the Air Conditioning system on my '66 BB, I am about ready to test for leaks and charge the system. Couple of questions:
- I have read that I can use nitrogen to pressurize the system and check for leaks (listen for hissing, soap bubbles on fittings). Does someone have experience with this process and can you find small leaks?
- I always planned on using R12 to charge the system but could I use the more available, and cheaper (and probably more responsible) 134A and retain the original Schrader valves? I may have to make up a hose adapter to charge, but is there any reason why this would not work? I understand there is a difference in refrigerant oil and a reduction in cooling capability, but the system is clean now and I could go either way.
Thanks - any other hints or comments would be appreciated. Joe
