When re-installing the engine/transmission after a re-build, I used a new (repro) rear transmission rubber mount instead of one that had been in the car since 1987. Didn't keep the older mount--I know, dumb! So now the 2 1/2 exhaust pipes are close to or touching the top of the cross member opening and my mechanic is suggesting bending the u-shaped bracket downward to move the pipes lower. I saw posts either here or on Corvette Forum showing photos of original versus new repro rubber mounts and the new ones were almost 1/2 inch thicker (higher), which would of course, cause the pipes to mount higher in the cross member opening. One poster suggested using a 2 inch exhaust bracket, which has a bit of a drop-down where the clamps contact the pipe, and simply widening the ben to accommodate the 2 1/2 inch pipe.
Wondering if anyone else has encountered this and has a suggestion or if there is a suggested source for a better (proper sized) reproduction rubber mount (or if, possible the urethane mounts are the correct height)?
Thanks
