    65 4 speed transmission mount

When re-installing the engine/transmission after a re-build, I used a new (repro) rear transmission rubber mount instead of one that had been in the car since 1987. Didn't keep the older mount--I know, dumb! So now the 2 1/2 exhaust pipes are close to or touching the top of the cross member opening and my mechanic is suggesting bending the u-shaped bracket downward to move the pipes lower. I saw posts either here or on Corvette Forum showing photos of original versus new repro rubber mounts and the new ones were almost 1/2 inch thicker (higher), which would of course, cause the pipes to mount higher in the cross member opening. One poster suggested using a 2 inch exhaust bracket, which has a bit of a drop-down where the clamps contact the pipe, and simply widening the ben to accommodate the 2 1/2 inch pipe.

Wondering if anyone else has encountered this and has a suggestion or if there is a suggested source for a better (proper sized) reproduction rubber mount (or if, possible the urethane mounts are the correct height)?

    Thanks

Read post #4 in this thread.
C1 & C2 Corvettes - Transmission mount to exhaust bracket fitment - OK yet another fish to fry. This evening I discovered the fit between these two parts leaves a little to be desired. Both parts are new but several years old. The exhaust bracket is a GM piece, the trans mount I assume is a repo. So is this fit what I...

Yes I had the same problem with a LIC mount. brought the LIC mount to Auto zone and they pulled out a mount that was not as high AND for a 67 vette without side pipes. Every thing fit at half the price. If I remember LIC had 2 different mounts for the 67. I called them to let them know that there must be a mix up. The promptly told me that they do not make mistakes. I still have that WRONG mount. The correct mount put the pipes in the center.

Thanks for the info, Leif and Dominic. Looked LICS a few minutes ago and they have a side view photo of their mount with a tape measure beside it. It appears to be close to 2 inches, much higher than stock which is closer to 1 1/2 inches, I understand. That's the fewer part inches necessary to put the pipe lower in the cross member opening. I'll reach out to Auto Zone and see what they have. Do you by any chance have their (Auto Zone's) part number for the mount you have?

        Many thanks,

          Grant,
They just pulled it up (parts #) and it was 7.80 at the time 4 years ago. Wow LIC did that? When I call them I ask" can I ask a question or should I just get screwed now".

Thanks. Do either of you happen to know the height of the correct mount that you got from Auto Zone/O'Reilly?

Not Me as it's been a while and the care is 99% done, but you can always bring it back. I doubt that you would.
