Garage Door Opener Won't Work in My '67 With Engine Running

Guys, I have something really peculiar going on with the engine running while I am in my '67 Corvette. For some unknown reason my garage door opener will not work until I either turn the engine off or get out of the car and step away somewhere between 12 to 15 feet away. I have radio suppression ignition wires and complete ignition shielding in place. It appears that I have some kind of interference blocking the garage door opener. The same opener works fine in other vehicles. Does anyone have any thoughts? Thanks in advance. Brooks Glover Jr. (2141)

    Brooks,

Interesting. Hold old is the garage door opener system?

Have you checked the flux capacitor? They're known to leak. If you need to replace one, wear lead and make sure it's NOS. If you have a BB, you may have two. Check the JG and AIM to make sure.

Gary, the I installed the opener in 2014. It has been working just fine ever since except for using it in my Corvette.

Mark, I hate to admit my ignorance but I do not know what a flux capacitor is, where it is located, or how many are in my car. I am going to try to find out. Thanks for your reply! Brooks Glover Jr. (2141)

Guys, I forgot to mention that the wiring harness was replaced in my '67 in 2017 and has not had that much use since. Brooks Glover Jr. (2141)

                Brooks,

What's the door opener brand and model number. Have you put new batteries in the Remote and see if the problem's still there?

Is it a hand-held remote? Will it work if you hold it out the window? Won't do either opening or closing?

Guys, the brand of garage door opener is Chamberlain, I have no LED lights in the car. To operate the opener while in the Corvette I have to either shut off the engine or get out of the car and step at least 12 to 15 feet away. The batteries are good and in another vehicle it will open the door from 100 or so feet away. Thanks for the responses! Brooks Glover Jr. (1241)

                        Brooks,

Replace the battery and see if that changes it.

Guys, I replaced the battery a couple of weeks ago. This problem existed before that. Keith, thanks for your response. Yes, all of the ignition shielding is in place and I am using radio suppression ignition wires. I wonder about the capacitors mentioned earlier. So much now days is made in China and they might be defective. Is there any way to test capacitors? Thanks again for all who have responded. Brooks Glover Jr. (2141)
