    Body Mount Cover Caulk

I was just about to install the #4 body mount covers that go in front of the rear wheels when I realized I have nothing to seal them with. Can anyone tell me what the appropriate caulking material is. It does not have to be "Correct" so much as effective.

Thanks Gary. That was a lot of research on your part. Since this car is far from perfect and will never be judged or leave the family I think I will go with the strip caulking. I am more concerned with keeping that area sealed than being "Correct". It appears that sourcing the original material is nigh on impossible anyway. Anyone care to guess though the points hit this could cause?

Just for interest sake the residue of the original stuff that I scraped off was more like the strip caulking that Keith suggested. It was a grayish white and was about the consistency of old fashioned window putty that had hardened.

As for the body mount number, yes I meant #3, not #4, I guess I should have proofread before posting.

            Norm,

I can take a guess about the judging of that sealer. That mounting plate is judged with the wheel wells, which includes wheel wells and undercoating. There are total of 8 points for originality. So, taking a small fraction of 8, and rounding down, I would say the wrong sealant for the access plates is worth a zero point deduct.

Thanks Edward. I picked up some similar stuff at our local Canadian Tire store the other day. Ninety feet was the smallest package they had but it was still less than 10 bucks and I can use the leftover stuff around the house. Norm
