    1965 a/c belt number

Just broke the A/C belt. 327 with 300 HP and factory air. Looking up replacements they list GM 3849085 as the OEM part number. However, this belt is 56.75" and the old belt is only 55". Some other websites state this belt is for 2-65 and later builds.

My 1965 was built March 24 so it may have the earlier compressor (or pulley or something) so that it only needs a 55" belt. Any help with the right part number from all you gurus will be greatly appreciated. It's hot in Las Vegas.

There were 2 different belts used for the A/C compressor for 1965 300/327. These were GM #3847705 and GM #3849085. However, both were 15/32 X 57" belts.

      Thanks Joe,

Last owner must have put wrong belt on. Hope I can adjust out the extra 2".

I don't have an idler pulley and none is shown on belt diagrams so it can't be that.

        Frank,
Here are a couple of part numbers for shorter belts, although probably not correct.

        15/32" wide - 3847709 54 & 3/4"
        " - 3827818 55"
        " - 3847711 55 & 1/4"

My 1965 AIM lists the correct number as 3849085 as Joe has referenced above.

          Ray,

Thanks for providing these numbers. Will be helpful if I can't adjust out for the 57" belt I ordered.
