Loop in oil pressure line for C2 small block cars

I found a super clear photo on the Corvette Forum showing a recreated loop in the oil pressure line between the engine block and the firewall. Does the loop in this photo reasonably mimic the size and orientation of the loop as it appears on unrestored C2 small block cars? Or in other words, would the loop in the photo pass muster with most mechanical judges?

    Thanks,

    Gary

        Gary,
I have not seen any loop in any of the pictures that i have seen ,i purchase a line from LIC that looks just like the line in Harrys post . The line kit that paragon sells is just a straight piece of tubing with fittings

Here is a picture of an un-restored, 18k mile 1965 Corvette 327/365 small block that I took at the recent Heartland Chapter Regional meet back in June. I would say this would be correct also for a ‘66 small block.

Gary I looked at a few photos I have of low mile original 66 and 67 327 cars I took years ago and I can't see a loop in the lines. The shielding is in the way if there is a small loop. 427 cars have the loop. It seems the line workers attached the oil line to block and shaped it a number of ways to have room for the wires, linkage and cables to have clearance.

Re: Loop in oil pressure line for C2 small block cars

                  Guys,

Here are parts of two pages from the ‘66 AIM that show the oil pressure line. Image #1 is for small block cars. Image #2 is for L72/BB cars.

Note that in image #1, there is no loop in the pressure line. There are 3 bends, each of about 90 degrees. In a old posting someone asked for a sketch of the bends for the SB oil line. John Hinckley said to just look at the AIM page.

In image #2, there is about 1.5 coils or loops.

Image #1 is not consistent with the description for SB cars in the ‘66 JG. Image #2 is consistent with the description for BB cars in the ‘’66 JG. it feels like this question is turning into yet another time-consuming research project.

                    Gary:

Image #2 is a big block engine. Note where oil line comes off the block.

Engine valve covers and exhaust manifolds also indicate a BB.

                          Larry,

Do the bends in your line look anything like what is shown in the AIM (my image #1), i.e., three, 90-deg bends in the portion of the line closet to the engine block connection?

                              Harry,

I noticed that the photo you posted is the exact same photo that Long Island Corvette has on their website, where they describe that item as “
preformed - copper coated steel”. It’s that “pre-formed” descriptor that confuses me. I really don’t see how it can be correctly formed. Since the line exits the oil pressure gauge more or less horizontally (right hand end in LIC photo), the other end must be aimed vertically downward to connect at the block end. That is to say, the two ends must be oriented 90 degrees from one other. The two ends in the photo look roughly parallel. I just don’t see how that preformed LIC line can connect at both ends without at least one additional bend. Unless there is some oddity with the perspective in the LIC photo.
