67 Holley 3810 Fast Idle Adjustment
Trying to adjust the fast idle on my 67 327/300HP 4-speed wo AC.
This what has been done.
1. Warm engine to operating temperature.
2. Bent the tang with the slot onto high step of the fast idle cam to set RPM at 2000 per CSM.
3. Flip accelerator to reset to normal idle.
4. Turn engine off.
5. Done.
Tomorrow at cold start I assume I should press the accelerator to floor to set choke and fast idle and start the engine.
Assuming all is correct the engine should run at about 1500 RPM.
Have I done this correctly?- Top

Re: 67 Holley 3810 Fast Idle Adjustment
Ralphie,
First the fast idle has to be set when the engine is cold. 2-5 sounds good so tomorrow the engine will run at fast idle when started cold. If it don't the adjustment needs further adjustment.

Re: 67 Holley 3810 Fast Idle Adjustment
Thanks for the help.
Finally go my choke and fast idle resolved.
It turns out the lever at the E pin was slightly bent and did not allow the choke mechanism to move freely. Straightened the lever.
Once that was discover the tang adjustments could be made.
Silly little issue that drove me crazy.
Still not idling the way I want but at least now I know I just need a small adjustment.- Top

Re: 67 Holley 3810 Fast Idle Adjustment
Ralphie,
As you found out the the choke needs to be set when the engine is cold. But the check to see if that it comes off, it needs to be warmed up. So instead of starting and warming the whole engine up, I use a heat gun on the choke coil to simulate engine temp and then turn the temp function off and use it as a point and shoot fan to cool it back down. And repeat the cycle as needed.

Re: 67 Holley 3810 Fast Idle Adjustment
Don,
Here are the steps I used to set the Fast Idle Cam
1. With Cold engine
2. Open throttle
3. Back off Fast Idle tang
4. Throttle closed
5. Choke Closed-Fast Idle Cam free to move
6. Start engine
7. Immediately adjust curb idle screw to set 1400RPM
8. Let engine warm up
9. Choke fully open
10. Shut engine off
11. Manually hold choke closed
12. Look at relationship Fast Idle Tang and cam
13. Slightly roll open throttle while holding choke closed
14. Adjust tang to contact fast idle cam
15. Restart engine
16. Warm engine to operating temperature
17. Verify choke is open
18. Back down curb idle to desired idle.
19. Shut engine off.
20. Wait until next day to see if additional adjustment is needed.
It worked for me. Did not try the heat gun as method.

Re: 67 Holley 3810 Fast Idle Adjustment
I may have responded to your post on the C/F. I don't understand all the confusion about the fast idle adjustment on your 3810 Holley.
Make sure your choke coil rod is adjusted to completely close the choke blade when the engine is cold.
Start the engine and let it warm, the vacuum choke pull off will open the blade so the engine does not flood and the choke coil (while warming) will open the blade full.
With the engine warm and choke blade full open move the stepped cam up and let the adjustment tang rest against the high step and bend to raise the fast idle speed to approx 2000rpm.
The curb idle screw only sets the slow idle speed after any choke adjustments are made.- Top
