I can't believe I'm doing this...

Some of you know I'm looking for a low mileage C4 6-speed coupe. Today I'm in the Philadelphia airport waiting for my flight home to Dallas when I saw an ad for a prospective car in upstate NY. Long story short, while at the gate I decided to cancel my flight to look at the car.

Plan A: Fly there tonight ~ $1,400 one way. No go.

Plan B: Rent a car and drive; about 7 hours. But all the major car rental companies are out of cars! No go.

Plan C: (Getting creative) Go Greyhound- an 11 hour ride with one transfer in NYC departing 8pm tonight. $137. I can't believe I bought a bus ticket.

I'll keep you posted. Wish me luck.

Good luck man! If you get the car are you driving it back from Up State NY to Dallas? or is there another Greyhound Bus adventure in your life?...I can hear the jingle now"...Go Greyhound - and leaving the driving to us..."

been there done that (Stuck in Philadelphia airport - not a unique situation - NOTHING arrives or leaves on time in Philly, eh?)
been there done that (get to airport - no rental cars available)
been there done that (Greyhound Bus - Pittsburgh to Chicago - summer 1968 in my case - awful - no A/C I'm sure your bus will be better)

PS - did you try AMTRAK? or does that not go anywhere near your new ride's location?
maybe AMTRAK Philly to NYC - and then go Greyhound from there? - might save you some hours?

I didn't even think of Amtrak. I should have posted on the forum sooner so I could have gotten your suggestion sooner...

I'm already at the Philly bus station waiting for my bus with ticket in hand (well, on my smartphone).

Yep, Amtrak would've been the way to get to NYC from Philly.

My apologies for being slow on the draw with my reply Mark...we "east-coasters" (hey, I'm in Pittsburgh) but, we have our "do-not-fly" airports...

On the bus to Buffalo now (free wifi and no middle seat!) and don't have much to do, so I checked Amtrak. No train until tomorrow, and it arrives in the middle of the night... $850.

Go Greyhound!

That is so cool! Gotta love car find road trips! Good luck with the find! I just did something very similar. Bought a 96, 22K miles, std heater, std radio, a/t with performance axle, and standard seats. I personally, prefer the std seats over the sports. Campaigned the car, got a top flight. This is my weekender and summer car to drive to work and enjoy!

I met the owner and checked out the car yesterday. It's a beautiful Corvette but I didn't close the deal. I was unexpectedly summoned home the same day and am now flying to Dallas. So my visions of a cross country Corvette road trip are dashed this time.

The good side, is you've seen the car. If it is something you want, it is easy to get it shipped. It is amazing how easy it is nowadays to ship cars.
