Indeed, The counterweights are different due to the vacuum characteristics of the solid lifter 270hp motor.
And a BTW to the OP, you can find the triangular metal tags sometimes on eBay if your newly acquired correct carbs don't have them.
You can buy new ones from Chicago Corvettes as well IIRC.

A little research and to confirm Frank's initial diagnoses, the carbs are Chrysler Carters 2631S and 2632S. They were original to the 1957/58 Plymouth Fury V800 Dual Quad 318 with 290HP.

There seems to be a value as there is a set of carbs for 2500 US on eBay, not working. Now we look for original Corvette dual quads!

        Thanks to all.

Although not original, I think it's cool that someone took the time and effort to hotrod the engine with larger Plymouth carbs. I wonder how common of a mod this was back in the day?

Thanks to all members for your help and comments. Frank, great document and straight to my save file!

There is a set of original carbs on eBay, although not sure if it's truly for a 270. What price range should I expect and where should I look?

Have a great rest of the weekend!

That's a tough question, I know clones go between $1800 and $2500 if well done, at one point "good to go" 270ho carbs could bump up against $4000 or so. As evidence of this there are a pair of dual quad clones on eBay right now for $2,500 and a "real deal" of rebuilt 270hp carbs for $4,300 (or best offer). Interestingly, some '57 Plymouth WCFB dual quads are also on the site for$2,250.

You could prob "step up" to correct carbs (assuming your existing carbs are well sold) for $2,000 or thereabouts.

              Frank,
I could justify the upgrade only if there is some value in what I have since they run well and look really good! I would do a 2k upgrade and thanks again for the support!

I may have a set left over. Give me a day or so to get down to my parts room. Send me an email and I will let you know what I find.

hi tony-assuming your engine code stampings and other things are corrrect for 270 h.p. i agree doing the upgrade to the correct set-up makes real sense if you can get a good price for your existing set-up. the estimated prices mentioned above for corvette set-ups is spot on and i can attest that they have been at that price level for at least the past 10 years. they are getting rarer and we know they will never be available repro. be careful to check all of the intricacies mentioned above (and judging manual) because clones can be pretty deceiving and they would not be worth your trouble based on what you already have. jim

                      Re: 59 Dual Quads on a 270HP

                      James,
Apologies for the late response. My engine is indeed code stamped 270HP. I almost enjoy having the Chrysler setup simply because it is what they did in the sixties. They are still Carters, period correct, and with larger bore size and from a rare vehicle producing more power!

A quote that is interesting comes from the introduction of the Restoration Handbook CD below:

When classic Corvettes were new, modifying them was all the rage. But now that they are classics, restoring them to factory original, right down to factory labels, inspection marks, and even paint overspray, is all the rage. And it shows no sign of abating.

James, I will take my time finding a good set at a reasonable price. I know Pancho was supposed to look at his inventory.

                      Thanks again for your comments!
