    1966 Coupe Corvette Red

There was a 1966 red coupe that was at Mecum in 2020, VIN 194376S111393 registered number G136.1, it did not sell. The car was originally sold in April of 1966 at Luby Chevrolet in Colorado. The individual that registered it at Mecum supposedly was from Texas. Just wanting to know if anybody remembers the car or knows anything about it. It shows the car was a NCRS Top Flight car.
    Thanks

I know the car well, Bloomington Survivor in all four categories and NCRS Top Flight. It is a 300 horse with factory installed sidepipes. Purchased by a pilot from California while on vacation in Colorado and registered new in California. It had an original POP and pictures from the trip back to California with the sidepipes on the car when it was a few days old. It was owned by two friends here in Austin, TX.

Gary, I don't know who purchased the car, I believe it sold at "The Bid Goes On". It is Bowtie worthy, a very original car.

            Hello Tim
Well here is the bear of bad news. That car did not sell at Mecum. It was repo. I can't release any info about the situation at this point. Was the car delivered with factory Knock-off wheels? Would you have any idea what that car is worth in real money?

A local dealer purchased the car from a friend to run through auction with a number of other cars he owned. It's a shame that a good car got caught up in a can of worms. My assertation about the Knock off wheels is this, the car had all the signs of being delivered with KO wheels, but the first owner bought it without KO's and it didn't have them in the picture of the car on their trip back to California. My guess is Luby had a batch of Corvettes on their lot (maybe up to seven as per the original owner) and they may have swapped out KO wheels for hubcap wheels before it was sold. The original owner wanted a Porsche, but the Porsche dealer wouldn't let him test drive a car. Luby was more that pleasant to deal with and he bought the Corvette and drove it to the Porsche dealer and rubbed it in the salesmen's face. True story. This is one of the few 1966 Corvettes licensed new in California without a smog pump (with the exception of the L72 motor). That always confused me as the POP was in the original owners name and the 300 horse motor was not coded for K66. This car was a power steering, N14 car that had original paint and mostly original interior. The chassis was beautiful as the car lived in California. I'd be glad to visit with you on the value. I'd love to see the car end up in good hands. I know the car very well.
