    67 427 clutch

Looking for a friend, 67 427, in need of a clutch and I found this:

https://www.forums.ncrs.org/showthre...ght=427+clutch, Joe's thread stating the Luk 04-049 is correct for all 67 big blocks so I passed this information on. However, in the back of my mind was a comment MANY years ago about tall versus short throwout bearings. Does someone have the information of the proper throw out bearing? Friends 67 desperately needs a clutch and I suggested the Luk as per the posted link.

All Corvettes except early 1955 use the short clutch release bearing.

If memory serves me correctly, I think the Luk kits are highly recommended with the possible exception of the throw-out bearing included in the kit (has some plastic/composite materials?). I believe the recommendation is to also buy a higher quality bearing in addition to the Luk kit. You may want to have your friend check to see if this is still the case.

Thank you. I passed both comments on. The last time I needed a new clutch was 25+ years ago and it was for a 327.

1966-69 427 (except L-88 and ZL-1) clutch is the same as used on most 1969-81 small blocks. The flywheel is the same, too.

            I've used LUK on both SB(C1s & C2s) & 2 BB L71s.

The LUK bearing uses a industrial plastic section which the fork attaches to. At first I was apprehensive about using them, but they have proven to be a acceptable and long lasting bearing. Both L71s still going, so far 8 years and 6 years with no troubles.

A little bit fuzzy but mostly readable. Thank you. I'll pass this on. I don't know if he or his mechanic have the Chassis Service Guude. I have one for a 66 (at least I think I still have) and I'll check there once back in tow.

The LUK RepSet is the way to go.

                    Here is my experience...
