1959 Door Panel Installation Issue

I hope everyone is well!

I am painting and changing the metal insert on my original door panels. Over the years, the mounting holes in the fiberglass doors have become useless in it's anchoring capabilities. Holes have become bigger. Does anyone have a good solution for the door side holes?

The previous owner installed drywall plastic inserts. Anyone encounter this issue?

Though that may seem a pretty lame way to address the issue, I've used that method and it actually works pretty darn well. Especially, in areas where no one is ever going to see and you're simply looking for a good solution. You might give it a try.

Thanks, AN's solution looks goos assuming the revits do not add addition space behind the panel. I am assuming the little rivetted plates are metal??

Leif, I re-examined the drywall inserts, they are holding up well!!!!
