    Early dated '67 jack

My car was assembled on February 1, 1967. They started dating jacks in January of '67 (not sure when during the month) , so should my car have a January '67 dated jack or is it possible that a February 1 car could have received one of the non-dated jacks still inventory? I have what I believe to be an original jack and tool in my 46K mile car, but there is no date. Everything else checks out. What do other January and February car owners have? Thanks.

Very possible, and quite likely, that your jack is original to your car. Or, at least, an acceptable replacement. I would think a non-dated '67 jack would pass muster for a February 1st build.

Leif, I feel the same way, but clearly I am a bit bias to the jack I have. I hope to hear from other owners that have early '67's and if they have a date or not on their jack if it is a known original to the car.

My one previous owner May 1967 car has an undated jack. I have known the car since 1972 and the previous owner had no reason to replace it.

                Re: Early dated '67 jack

Mark, gorgeous car! I know you meant to say early December 1966 car and no date makes sense on yours. As I understand it, prior to January of '67 the jacks did not have dates. Starting in January they did date them and so the question remains when did the dated one begin to flow into inventory? I am guessing that the guys pulling the jacks from inventory didn't give a hoot whether they were dated or not and just grabbed one regardless. I think we will see both dated and non-dated examples within a given month. What i hope to find is an idea of just how early (after January 1, 1967) did they begin to be pulled from inventory. Anyone out there have an original car with jack with an assembly date of January or February? Date or no date?

                    Re: Early dated '67 jack

Rick, this supports the notion that inventory was inventory regardless if they were dated or not. This is not surprising based on what we all know about the factory perspective on parts. Although it's a small sample, we don't have one dated jack being reported yet.

                        Re: Early dated '67 jack

Gary, you ask an interesting question. I know some of the components are not original to the car and some I question. The starter is definitely original and has a date of 7A19 (january 19th, 1967). The radiator is new and DeWitts suggested a 66M (December 1966) date, but that doesn't count. The carburetor is original to the car and it is dated 713. The expansion tank is 66K and I can't tell you if that is original or not. Alternator is original and is dated 6M29. Voltage regulator is a Delco but not dated correctly so it's not original. I think that's about all I can think of that's dated.

Thanks Brian. Are there others out there with a January through March VIN that can report what they find? Mine is VIN 9568 and would like to know if there are any dated jacks prior to mine and if not, when did they start putting January '67 dated jacks into cars. If someone knows of a Restorer article or other research that can be accessed please let me know and I will end this thread. Thanks.
