    Re: C2 Front Spring Removal

    Gary,

You're welcome. We all need these kind of ideas to make the process much easier. Take a look at that ball joint remover at Harbor Freight. It's a great tool and it even can save the rubber on the ball joints!

        Re: C2 Front Spring Removal

Since we're talking about front spring removal, before I do so, I thought I'd share my analysis of my front spring condition, looking for opinions from those of you who are more expert in this area than I. Any help would be great.

In essence, the left front front corner of my '65's body is at least an inch lower than the right. I have the opposite condition in the rear. This could, I think, be a spring issue, but is it front or rear springs? To determine this, I took off the front wheels and set the height from the ground of each frame rail, at a point near the front wheels, such that both rails were resting on supports of equal height. My theory being that if the rear spring was the issue, I would still see a body anomaly caused by the spring in the rear, as it was still on the wheels. What I found was that, in this condition the body was level side-to-side in both the front and rear.

This suggests to me that the rear spring was not an issue, so the left-front spring doesn't seem equivalent to the right. Am I on the right track here?
        Mike

          Mike,

The other simple test that could help would be to do what you did with the front, but do it with the rear, and see if the front levels out. If not, it would surely suggest a front coil as the probelem.

Afraid to do that, might find out all the springs are NFG. Nothing I hate more than changing springs...well, working under the dash is a close second. Just did that, it's not my week...
