Lighter Element Not Staying in Place While Heating p

Since we are one this topic, I have a question. I replaced the cig. lighter socket with a used original I found at LIC because one of the three prongs was broken off of the original one in my '65. My problem is that the lighter element will not stay in the lighter socket while heating up. The lighter heats up but won't stay in place during the heat up cycle.

What do I need to adjust to keep the lighter in place while it is heating up?

Which prongs need to be adjusted? See pictures with highlighting.

    Thanks,

    James West

The prongs to give a little more retention.

The prongs inside the lighter housing. BE CAREFUL. First, before you adjust the prongs disconnect the battery. Then, bend the prongs every so slightly - it is a trial and error thing - if you bend them too much they will hold the heated element longer than necessary and then the whole lighter assembly becomes a bright red beacon - by then you are reaching for your fire extinguisher. There is an "ideal" time limit for the prongs to hold th element before the element pops out - I am sure others on this forum can mention the "about" time in seconds.

The area I have circled in red holds the main body of the element, start there with a slight inward adjustment.

The area I have circled in yellow hold the element tip when pushed in to heat the element. Adjust these if the area in red does not fix the problem. These are delicate due to the heat from past use.

              Harry,

              Thanks for the clarification.
