    69 Underbody heat sheilds

Does anyone know a plating shop that can plate those heat shields with the correct grey phosphate? Cannot find any clean originals that aren't rusted. Alternatively, has anyone painted them and had the judged?

    Thanks,

Here's a trick I have used on smaller parts that needed a gray phosphate coating... it should work on a larger piece as well...

Soak the part in Rustoleum Rust Dissolver (the liquid kind) overnight or longer. The process leaves a gray phosphate coating on the metal. After removing it from the solution and rinsing it with water, soak the part in some oil to make the coating more durable. Wipe the oil off after an hour or two and you have a gray phosphate coated part.

This approach seems to be holding up nicely for me after a year or so on some smaller under-hood parts (firewall hose clips, bolts, etc.), and they all passed judging 2 weeks ago. Good luck!
